About Us
The 'Big Brothers Big Sisters of Israel' association has been operating since 2003 with the aim of providing professional and personal support to children, adolescents, and young people in situations of risk and distress. Putting them first, it enables them to develop properly into normative adulthood. The core activity of the association is based on pairing a mentor-volunteer, a 'Big Brother,' who becomes a significant adult role-model for the children, adolescents, and young people in need of such support.
Each year, the association receives referrals from children, adolescents, and young people in various life situations, including at-risk children and adolescents, orphans, those lacking family support, children and adolescents with disabilities, siblings of children with disabilities and many others.
Our Vision
We aspire to lead society across all sectors in Israel towards a reality where every child, adolescent and young person has an equal opportunity for self-realization, while strengthening their sense of belonging and capability, in order to continuously improve the quality of life for individuals and the entire society.
Our Goal
We empower and provide relevant and customized responses to the diverse needs of children, adolescents, young adults and adults, through mentoring processes and meaningful activities facilitated by mentors, instructors and group facilitators, who serve as inspirational role-models.
Increasing self-confidence and feelings of capability while preventing risky behaviors among children, adolescents and young adults - through long-term mentoring with a significant role-modelm as well as through group-based social interventions. Interventions occurs at a critical point in the lives of young people, where positive influence can be exerted.
We connect young siblings in need of support with adult mentors - through conversation, activities or shared games. Over time, the presence of the mentors and the relationships developed create a genuine change in the young siblings' sense of self-worth and in their lives in general.
We believe that volunteering should integrate into volunteers' daily lives, allowing them to give wholeheartedly while simultaneously enjoying the journey. Hence, meetings are held once a week for two hours. The cumulative effect of these interactions always surprises us.
And The Results Are Heartwarming :)
